Citační databáze Web of Science patří mezi nejvýznamnější zdroje vědeckých informací. Článek, který vám předkládáme, vás stručně uvede do problematiky této citační databáze a seznámí vás se základními přednostmi a aplikacemi této databáze. V samostatné sekci popíšeme základní principy využité při více jak 60 letém budování citační databáze – s důrazem na výběr odborných časopisů. Naše citační databáze v uplynulých dvou letech doznala řady změn a funkčních rozšíření, se kterými by vás tento článek chtěl také seznámit. Za všechny uveďme citační index Emerging Sources Citation Index, který obohacuje regionální obsah databáze a nové Open Access publikace dostupné prostřednictvím Web of Science.

The Web of Science Citation Database belongs to the group of premium scientific information resources. This article is summarizing the topic of Citation Databases with high interest to the key values and possible application of the citation databases. Part of the article is dedicated to selection criteria used for over 60 years of creating of Web of Science with high interest to the Journal Selection Criteria. Web of Science platform has been changed in many different ways since 2016. Some functionalities have been updated, some new became part of the database. This article is mainly describing new citation index Emerging Sources Citation Index enriching WOS regional content and new Open Access publications available via Web of Science.
